Toyosu Fish Market Finally Opens

The Tsukiji Fish Market, well-known as the “kitchen of Japan,” ended its 83 year history on October 6th. Its replacement, the new Toyosu Fish Market, finally opened five days later.

The relocation was originally slated for November 2016. However, it was pushed back after controversial safety issues emerged. It took four days for over 600 wholesalers to make the move to the new site. On the first day of operation, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike called for cooperation to build up a new Toyosu brand step by step.
